जौ फसल के रोग और उनका प्रबंधन Barley is the fourth largest cereal in the world after maize, rice and wheat with a share of 5.5-6% of the global cereal production. Barley is grown nearly by 100 countries worldwide and during 2013, globally the area under the crop was nearly 49.14 million hectares with a production of 143.95 million metric tonnes (faostat3.fao.org ). As per third advance estimates of Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, India will produce 1.63 million metric tonnes of barley during 2014-15 (eands.dacnet.nic.in). Like other cereals, barley is also exposed to various diseases, which are ultimately responsible for significant yield reduction and poor grain quality. These diseases are wide spread from high input production conditions i.e. north western plain zone (NWPZ) to medium/ low input agro-ecologies of north eastern plain zone (NEPZ) and central zone (CZ). The chemical controls for diseases are available, however, inbuilt resistance mechanism is eco-friendly and best tactics for sustainable agriculture coupled with high benefit ratio. The pathogens may be disseminated through seed, soil and air. The seed borne pathogens can be controlled using seed treating chemicals. Barley is exposed to several biotic stresses, however, some major diseases are discussed below- 1. Yellow rust: Puccinia striiformis hordei (stripe rust)- Yellow rust  is the disease of cool temperature (10 –20oC) and the...

उत्तरी मैदानों और पहाड़ियों के लिए चारे वाली जौ फसल की नई किस्में। Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is an ancient cereal grain, which upon domestication has evolved from food grain to a feed and malting grain. It is considered fourth largest cereal crop in the world, with a share of 7% of the global cereal production. Barley grains have higher soluble dietary fibre and lower low density lipoprotein (LDL) content and hence also recommended medicinally. Barley is also a rich source of tocols, including tocopherols and tocotrienols, which are known to reduce serum LDL cholesterol through their antioxidant action. Barley is grown nearly by 100 countries worldwide and during 2011, the global area under the crop was nearly 48.60 million hectares with a production of 134.27 million tonnes. In India, area under the crop is concentrated in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar etc. in plains and Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir in the hills. During 2011-12, in India, barley occupied nearly 0.65 m ha area producing nearly 1.61 m tons grain, with a per hectare productivity of 24.8 q. This rise in production over last year was due to the availability of new high yielding, stable and disease resistant varieties with adoption...

उत्‍तर पश्‍चि‍मी पैनन्‍सलर क्षेत्र के लि‍ए माल्ट जौ की देर से पकने वाली नई कि‍स्‍म - डी.डब्लू.आर.बी. 91 Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is an important coarse cereal crop, being grown in rabi (winter) season in northern plains, hills and north-eastern plains of India. Since long it has been considered, as poor man’s crop because of its low input requirement and better adaptability to harsh environments, i.e. drought, salinity, alkalinity and marginal lands etc. The demand of malt barley as raw material for malting and brewing is on continuous rise in recent years. Malt is used in beer, hard liquors, malted milk and flavourings in a variety of foods. Barley malt can also be added to many food stuffs such as biscuits, bread, cakes and desserts. Barley is preferred by farmers in the water scare areas of the states as Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan in rotation to cotton, pearl millet and sorghum, over wheat. The major problem in such areas is the delayed sowing of the rabi, crop. DWRB 91 is a new early maturing malt barley variety and was developed at DWR Karnal. It was identified during 51st AICW&BIP workshop at RRS, SKRAU, Durgapura, Jaipur and subsequently it was also released and notified by the Gazette Notification S.O. No. 952 (E) dated on 10th...

Barley is one of the world’s most important cereal crops after wheat, maize, and rice. It occupies fourth rank in the world. Barley was mainly cultivated and used for human food supply in ancient times but now-a-days it is significantly grown for animal feed and malt products. Barley is predominantly consumed as food crop in the semi-arid regions of Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia), Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and Syria), highlands of Nepal, Ethiopia and Tibet, Andean countries of South America (Peru and Chile) and in some Asian counties (China, North Korea and Himalaya). In India, it is staple food of the northern hills people and also used for food and feed purposes in other plain parts of the country as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Among cereals, barley is most preferred for malt, as its husk protecting the coleoptiles (acrospire) during germination process and provides aid in filtration, firm texture of grains and its amylases activity makes it unique for malt recovery. In context of the nutritional values barley grains have higher soluble dietary fibre and lower low density lipoprotein (LDL) content than that of wheat. Soluble fibre has a cholesterol lowering property and LDL cholesterol is the fraction associated with increased risk...

बेहतर ग्रामीण आजीविका के लिए माल्ट जौ की कास्‍त कैसे करें  Barley is the world’s fourth most important cereal crop.  In India, it is staple food of the hill people and barley is cultivated for food and feed purposes in plain parts of the country as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Barley is also used for malt production, which is principally used in brewing industry and proving itself as a good source of better rural livelihood. In Malt Barley, production factors like cultivar  choice,  planting  date,  planting  density, fertilization, irrigation, weed management and quality seed are the most important and reflected in the yield and the malting quality of the crop. Cultivation of malt barley crop has specific crop production requirements which are as follows: Adaptation Barley is a rabi (winter season) cereal crop having short growing season. The ideal condition for growing barley is moderately dry period for sowing, occasional showers during the growing season and good weather for harvesting. The growing period in the plains lasts for about 5 months. It is grown mainly in the northern plains for malting purpose. It is a hardy crop and is quite suitable for rainfed drought prone areas and sodic condition.  In areas of good irrigation and medium fertility soils, malt barley of good quality can...
