आलू के बीज की गुणवत्ता - आलू उत्पादन का अभिन्न अंग High yields of potato revolve around use of high-quality seed potatoes. Access to quality seed to end users is the main requirements for bridging significant yield gaps for potatoes. Genetic purity, sound physiological age, disease free, proper seed size and free from internal/ external damage are the major parameters of quality seed potato tuber. Cultivar, soil type, weather conditions, water management, plant population, seed piece size, pests and diseases and agricultural management practices from seedbed preparation to storage, i.e., tillage, planting, pest management, haulm killing and harvesting affect the quality seed potato tuber production. Seed potato quality is ensured by seed certification process by seed certification agencies of state government. Grow out test is performed to determine germination, morphological characters and incidence of viruses to ascertain their genetic purity of a given seed lot of released cultivars for quality control. Significance of quality seed in potato The quality of seeds is considered an important factor for increasing yield and helps greatly in higher production per unit area to attain food security of the country. Quality seeds have the ability for efficient utilization of the inputs such as fertilizers and irrigation. Like other crops, high yields of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) revolves around use...

फ्रूट क्रॉप्स में प्लांट जेनेटिक रिसोर्स का उपयोग Plant genetic resources in horticultural crops and their wild relatives are of immense value to mankind as they provide food, fodder, fuel, shelter and industrial products. India is the second largest fruit-producing country in the world. A number of problems including diseases, insects, pests and various disorders are associated with fruit growing in India these problems can solve by utilising of Plant genetic resources. Inferior quality of planting material and poor orchard management are some of the reasons for the low productivity. Plant genetic resources are of great importance as they form the basic raw material to meet current and future needs of crops improvement programmes. The specific role that plant genetic resources have to play in addressing the challenges in securing food to humanity in a sustainable way is discussed. The diversity of plant species and of varieties of a range of crop types (cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables) and the intraspecific genetic diversity that make up PGR are fundamental to our food system. Furthermore, the links between their production and consumption are important to sustainable food systems in order to have the richest possible food diversity on plates, sustainably sourced from the biological diversity that underpins agricultural systems. Plant genetic resources are the biological basis...

सब्जी बीज उत्पादन के क्षेत्रि‍य मानक To maintain the requisite genetic purity of variety, it is essential to have field standards in seed production. Since,  seed production programme is organized by public, as well private sectors organization at different locations, seasons and of various class, thus the field standards for seed production has to be formulated and maintained uniformly during the execution of the seed programme in field. The field standards of vegetables seed crop are of two types, the first one is general requirements which include the isolation distance for foundation and certified seed and second is the specific requirements comprising off-type, objectionable weeds and plants affected by seed borne diseases. The objectives of general and specific requirements are to maintained genetic purity avoiding the genetic contamination and ultimately to meet the seed standards. General requirements of vegetable seed production: The isolation requirement is variable among the crops and it is low in self pollinated crops while moderate in often cross pollinated crops and higher in cross pollinated crops where wind/ insects act as pollinating agent. The crop-wise isolation is given below.   Crop Contaminant Minimum distance (m) Foundation Certified Tomato Field of the other varieties 50 25 Fields of the same variety not confirming to varietal purity requirements for certification 50 25 Brinjal Field of the other varieties 200 100 Fields of the same variety not confirming to varietal purity requirements...
