Earthworm manure, basis of organic farming. आज की सघन खेती के युग में भूमि की उर्वष षक्ति बनाये रखने के लिये प्राकृतिक खादों का प्रयोग बढ़ रहा है। इन प्राकृतिक खादों में गोबर की खाद, कम्पोस्ट, हरी खाद मुख्य हैं। पिछले कुछ सालों से कम्पोस्ट बनाने की एक नई विधि विकसित की गई है जिसमें केंचुआ का प्रयोग किया जाता है, जिसे वर्मी कम्पोस्ट करते हैं। वर्मी कम्पोस्ट, केंचुआ की मदद से निर्मित जैविक खाद है, जिसे किसान भाई स्वयं बना सकते हैं। वर्मी कम्पोस्ट बनाने की विधि :- सर्वप्रथम उपयुक्त स्थान जिसमें उपयुक्त नमी एवं तापमान निर्धारित किये जा सकें, का चयन कर इसके ऊपर एक छप्पर या अस्थाई शेड बनाया जाता है। शेड की लम्बाई चोड़ाई वर्मी टेंक की संख्या पर निर्भर करती है। वर्मी टेंक की मानक साईज 1 मी0 चौड़ा, 0.5 मी0 गहरा तथा 10 मी0 लम्बा होता है। वर्मी कम्पोस्ट बनाने के लिए सामग्री के रूप में वानस्पतिक कचरा जैसे कि कृषि अवषेश, जलकुभी, केले एवं बबूल की पत्तियां, अन्य हरी एवं सूखी पत्तियां, पेड़ों की हरी षाखायें, बिना फूली घास, सड़ी-गली सब्जियां एवं फल, घरेलू कचरा एवं पषुओं का गोबर आदि को उपयोग में लाया जाता है। वर्मी टेंक में अधपके नमीयुक्त वानस्पतिक कचरे की 6 इंच की तह लगा देते हैं यदि कचरा अधपका नहीं हैं तो उसमें गोबर...

Vermiwash: A liquid organic compost ताजा वर्मीकम्पोस्ट व केंचुए के शरीर को धोकर जो पदार्थ तैयार होता है उसे वर्मीवाश कहते हैं। यह भिन्न-भिन्न स्थानों पर विभिन्न संस्थाओं/ व्यक्तियों द्वारा अलग-अलग विधियां अपनायी जाती हैं, मगर सबका मूल सिद्धान्त लगभग एक ही है। विभिन्न विधियों से तैयार वर्मीवाश में तत्वों की मात्रा व वर्मीवाश की सांद्रता में अन्तर हो सकता है। वर्मीवाश बनाने की प्रक्रिया:- वर्मीवाश इकाई बड़े बैरल/ ड्रम, बड़ी बाल्टी या मिट्टी के घड़े का प्रयोग करके स्थापित की जा सकती है। प्लास्टिक, लोहे या सीमेन्ट के बैरल प्रयोग किये जा सकते हैं जिसका एक सिरा बन्द हो और एक सिरा खुला हो। सीमेंट का बड़ा पाईप भी प्रयोग किया जा सकता है। इस पाईप को एक ऊँचे आधार पर खड़ा रखकर नीचे की तरफ से बंद करें। नीचे की तरफ आधार के पास साईड में छेद (1 इंच चैड़ा) करें । इस छेद में T पाईप डालकर वाशर की मदद से सील करें। अंदर की ओर आधा इंच पाईप रखें तथा बाहर इतना कि नीचे बर्तन आसानी से रखा जा सके। बाहर T पाईप के छेद में नल फिट करें तथा दूसरे छेद में नट लगायें जोकि पाईप की समय-समय पर सफाई के काम आएगा। यह नल सुविधानुसार बैरल की पेंदी में भी लगाया जा सकता है। इस्माइल (1997) द्वारा प्रयुक्त वर्मीवाश इकाई की...

वर्मीकंपोस्टिंग अनवरत या सतत खेती के लिए एक पारिस्थितिकी-अनुकूल दृष्टिकोण Vermicomposting is a modified and specialised method of composting - the process uses earthworms to eat and digest farm wastes and turn out high quality compost in two months or less. Vermicompost is not a biofertiliser as is touted by some, merely improved compost.  Vermicompost can also be used to make compost tea. Vermicompost tea is useful as a prophylactic against pests and diseases, for pest repelling and as a foliar spray. A by-product of vermicomposting called vermiwash (which can be collected if there is a tap at the base of the vermicompost tank) also serves the same purpose.An important point to note in case of vermicomposting but widely ignored, is to carry out proper sieving of the compost before applying it in the fields. The most efficient and widely-used earthworms in vermicomposting are not indigenous and if the worms and casts find their way to the fields, they will quickly colonise and dominate the local species. Farmers can also use indigenous earthworm species, collecting them from their fields using collection baits and introducing the earthworms into heaps. However, concentrated and continuous use of easily soluble chemical fertilisers disturbs soil health, leading to acidification, micro nutrient depletion, soil degradation, reduction in the activity of soil micro flora and micro- fauna, poor crop health and lower crop yields and quality.  In view of this, it is desirable that we may have to return to less resource demanding agricultural practices viewing the gaps in domestic production as also nutrient depletion estimates.
